There have always been occasional situations in which a grandparent takes up raising a grandchild.
When Grandparents Are Parenting Grandchildren
In cooperation with Sadler Health, a support group is offered to help grandparents that have taken the responsibility to raise the unplanned grandchild.
It is becoming more and more common for grandparents and other extended family members to take over raising a child due to the parents being unable to fulfill this responsibility. The Carlisle Area Family Life Center will gladly help grandparents with diapers, clothing, formula, baby supplies and referrals to other agencies in the area. Please feel free to call or come into the center for assistance.
GRANDS is a support group designed especially for grandparents and others involved in parenting a little one. It meets the first Tuesday of each month from 6-7 pm at the YWCA Carlisle, 301 G Street. GRANDS stands for Gratitude, Resilience, Attitude, Nurture, Develop, Support. Childcare will begin at 5:30 pm for each of the meetings and is provided by YWCA preschool teachers and supported by a grant from Partnership for Better Health and the Cumberland Perry Drug and Alcohol Commission.
